gesso, always gesso

I've been reading the life and times of painter John Singer Sargent. Just following the description of him prepping his canvas, I felt how alike we painters are. All sharing our training in solitude. Just us and our materials. Art can be, and is often a quiet pursuit. Not lonely. I very seldom feel lonely while I'm busy in my work. In fact, when my phone rings when I am in a tricky spot, all I feel is annoyance. Even if I haven't spoken to anyone in a couple of days.
Artists everywhere are feeling their way into internet groups. Painters generally are not exactly the most social of humans. But we do enjoy meeting those who share our interests....um... at a distance. And the internet is great for that.

Tonight I am prepping a large canvas for an oil. But in the meantime here is a little silly pig for the Christmas season. A Scrooge Pig. Bah humbug.
